Who needs a smart phone? This is not a rhetorical question. A lot of phones are smart these days but do you need one?
What makes a phone smart? Usually what we refer to as a smart phone is a cell phone with full internet capabilities. There are some common operating system. Some have Windows Mobile, others have an Android operating system. Some phones have their own proprietary software like iPhones and Blackberry's.They all have one thing in common. The major wireless carriers charge a fee to put a smart phone on your plan. This fee is to cover the enormous data usage that these devises are capable of burning.
The fact is, you may be paying for a $30 a month data feature that you don't need. There are alternatives. One is to ditch your carrier for a prepaid plan with limited but adequate data. Another is to switch to a media phone.
A media phone which is sometimes called a messaging phone is a junior smart phone. It allows you access to the internet but not with a full browser. You can do many of the things folks like to do on the mobile web like facebook and twitter status updates, emailing, and instant messaging. The nice thing is you pay a wee $10 or $15 a month depending on device and the carrier. A media phone such as the LG Voyager can be activated on Page Plus. With the 20MB of data that comes with the monthly Unlimited Talk&Text plan at $44.95 a month, you are free to surf the web at a minimal cost.
